We first wrote this article during the pandemic of 2020, when all of us were itching to step outside, get on the next train and explore a place that is different to where we had been stuck for months (or how it really felt, for years). Due to this enormous change in our lives, many people started to rethink travel. This rethinking was caused by a few things: travel restrictions to foreign countries, the newfound appreciation for the beauty of our own countries, the realization of how great the impact of sustainable travel can be and many more. The final result of rethinking travel was simple and obvious for many of us: Go on vacation in your own country this year. To make your search for the best places to visit in Germany much easier, we put together this list with five of the best types of vacations to take in Germany.

4. Best Medieval Region to Visit in Germany: The Eifel

Many of these castles are very well maintained and depict the beauty of this time period. Moreover, many castles are not accessible by car, which is why there is an abundance of hiking trails leading to various castles tucked in the middle of gorgeous forested valleys and hills.
